Garrett Loses His First Tooth

On Sunday, July 26, 2009, Garrett lost his first tooth. His tooth had been loose for awhile. In fact the week before, Garrett and Noah visited the dentist. They took x -rays of Garrett's teeth to make sure his adult teeth were coming and that his tooth had not been injured. The x-rays confirmed my suspicions that Garrett's adult teeth were coming in and early to boot! Garrett made a funny comment shortly after he lost his tooth. He asked me why the tooth fairy needed so many teeth. He thought she ground up the teeth to make money.

Jordan's family had tradition that Garrett had to participate in after he lost his tooth. Below is video. It explains that tradition. (Due to technical difficulties, I will need to post the video later!)

Kindergarten Bridge

This summer, Garrett was lucky enough to attend kindergarten bridge. This is a program that introduces students to kindergarten by giving them a "pre-kindergarten" experience during the summer. Garrett attended the kindergarten bridge program at Linden Elementary School. He attended bridge for two weeks from 8:00 am - 1:30 pm. He was given free breakfast and lunch as well as ride the bus. Score one for the mommy! Below are pictures of Garrett's first day of bridge and of Garrett's first day of riding the bus. Papa was nice enough to pick Garrett up on the first day. Papa took Garrett to lunch which was better than school lunch.

This experience was also good for Garrett on a spiritual level. He was really afraid of going to school. He asked for a blessing and for us to say prayers for him. I think the prayers gave him comfort and strength. Jordan said that Garrett did not cry the first day!

We took him to bridge for the first week, but Garrett had to ride the bus the last week. Again, he was very afraid to ride the bus. We said prayers, and mommy even rode to school behind the bus. After that, riding the bus was fun for Garrett. I am sure that will not last long! Especially when he wants a car to drive to school when he old enough for a driver's license.

After the first day, I asked Garrett if he made any friends. He said none of the other kids would play with him. This broke my heart. Jordan felt that many of the students probably knew each other. Because we live on dead end street with established residents (meaning no other kids his age live on our street), Garrett did not know any one at the bridge program and will probably not know any in his class at Glenwood Elementary except Allison (she is in Garrett's primary class). As the week progressed, Garrett made more friends and seemed to have more fun!
